About LoES PTA

Longfellow Elementary PTA's mission is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for our children. We are committed to supporting our Longfellow families by partnering with the Longfellow staff and community to create and foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive space where all students can thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

Committees

Family Involvement Programs/Family Fun

This committee should be a broad representation of the entire membership  and should be appointed as soon after the election of new officers as possible so that it may have sufficient time to plan the program for the coming PTA year

At Longfellow, our main programs/events include:

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The mission of this committee is to educate, advocate, engage and empower the community by cultivating partnerships and resources to create and sustain an environment that is inclusive, equitable and diverse for all.

The goals of the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) are to identify school-specific goals, action strategies, and measurable objectives addressing each dimension of diversity and equity.

LoES is STRONGER TOGETHER!

Hospitality

The goal of the hospitality committee is to develop a spirit of friendliness among the members of the PTA and others who attend its meetings.

The committee is the "sweetest" heart of our PTA, organizing the serving of refreshments for PTA meetings, staff appreciation lunches, and special school activities.

Events occur throughout the school year. Volunteers are always appreciated and needed.

Fundraising

The fundraising committee plans and facilitates a variety of efforts that raise money to support the PTA budget

Our PTA budget helps to support field trips, movie nights, craft night, parent/child events, direct classroom and teacher support, and many other programs designed to enrich the educational and community experiences of our children.

At Longfellow, we raise funds through a variety of ways. They include:

Audit

An audit is required for every PTA and must be completed over the summer before the first general meeting of the school year where the report is presented to the membership.

The audit may be completed by an auditor or an audit committee that consists of PTA members who are not authorized signers to the PTA’s financial accounts.

PTACHC

The PTACHC (PTA Council of Howard County) is the local PTAs organized under the authority of the state PTA for the purpose of conference, leadership training, coordination of efforts, support and assistance of the local PTAs. Councils are an effective means of unifying PTA activities and collaborating on projects in the community and school district. Longfellow has two delegates that attend monthly PTACHC meetings and report back to our school community on local and current happenings in our community.
